Home Werken bij Assistant Medical Coordinator

Are you a doctor or nurse with medical experience abroad? Come join our team on Lesvos as a assistent medical coordinator! In this job you will support our medical coordinator in his/her duties. Your main task is to manage the pharmacy. In addition, you organize simulation training for our medical team, perform administrative tasks and work as a shift coordinator in our clinic. You are preferably available for seven months.

Important note: this position can also be filled in by someone who lives and works in Greece (or in another EU country). In that case, the deployment will take place on a self-employed (freelance) basis. If you live/work in The Netherlands, you will be employed on the basis of a fixed-term employment contract.

Where will you work?

Boat Refugee Foundation offers medical and psychological (emergency) aid and stands up for the rights of people on the run. Where systems become inhumane and compassion gets lost, we take action. Since 2015 we’ve been running operations in different locations on the borders of Europe. At the moment we are active in Mavrovouni camp on Lesbos, which houses approximately 3.000 people in degrading circumstances. Here, our teams provide medical and psychological assistance.

What will you do?
  • You are responsible for our pharmacy:
    • You process all incoming orders and donations.
    • You manage the stock and, in consultation, also the budget for this.
    • You keep the pharmacy neat and orderly, so that the necessities for the medical shifts are easy to find.
    • In consultation with our medical advisor, you keep the list of required medication up to date.
  • You ensure that volunteers also take on additional tasks in addition to their medical shifts. You organize and coordinate the so-called “task days” together with the volunteer coordinator.
  • You answer emails, often with questions about the pharmacy or donations, and you manage the related folders on our Google Drive.
  • You will run two to three medical shifts per week in our mobile clinic.
  • You function as a source of continuity for the often rapidly changing team.
  • You contribute to the optimalization of the work of the medical team.
  • In the absence of the medical coordinator, for example during vacation, you take over a number of tasks.
Who are we looking for?
  • You are a doctor or nurse (minimum Bachelor degree) with at least 2 years of relevant working experience;
  • We prefer specialization as a general practitioner, tropical doctor, pediatrician, psychiatrist/psychiatric nurse or experience/specialization in emergency care;
  • You have experience with medical work abroad. Experience in Greek healthcare is an absolute advantage;
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken as in writing;
  • You have experience with coordinating and administrative work;
  • You communicate clearly and have good social skills.
  • You like to work in a team and you can deal well with changing working hours;
  • You enjoy standing in front of a group;
  • You can independently lead (smaller) projects and chair meetings;
  • You master Word and Excel and have experience working with Google Drive;
It would also be great if...
  • You are preferably available for 7 months.
  • You have a driving license B (regular cars and small vans)
  • It is an advantage if you have previously done voluntary work with us.
What do we offer you?

As an Assistant medical coordinator you will receive a modest salary, in line with the character and objective of our organization. In addition, your travel costs (with a maximum of 500 euros) and accommodation (in our volunteer house) will be reimbursed.

Initially, you will be given a temporary contract for seven months. An extension after this period is possible, with a maximum commitment of twelve months in total.

You will be working in the Mavrovouni camp on Lesvos. There is a chance that you will be employed during your contract period within our newly started mission elsewhere in Greece. This is of course done in mutual consultation.
