10 YEARS LATER. STILL ON THE MOVE.

10 years on the move: without you, no story. Share your memories and stay involved.

In 2015, more than a million people fleeing war, violence, oppression or persecution arrived in Europe. 800,000 of them reached Greece, most by sea. Not everyone survived the crossing.

The cameras were rolling. Across Europe, we watched the shocking images of washed-up bodies, and of those who had made the journey across in rickety, unseaworthy boats. Europe mobilized. Humanitarian aid was organised; solidarity initiatives arose, both locally and across the continent. Boat Refugee Foundation also started in this context.

Now, 10 years later, the cameras are gone—but the crisis is not over. People are still arriving on the Greek islands. People who are forced to live in inhumane conditions in camps, waiting for decisions on their asylum applications. Across Europe, the situation has not improved over the past decade. While funds dry up and organisations leave, our help is still urgently needed.

10 years of Boat Refugee Foundation. Not something to celebrate, but an occasion to come together and call attention to people on the move and the situation they face in Europe. Since 2015, we have continuously provided healthcare, a listening ear, and a safe space for people on the move. For 10 years, we have been committed to humane reception and just policies.

We could never have done this without you. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, donors, partners, and everyone who has shown their support over the past 10 years, we have been able to provide essential medical and psychosocial care and offer a safe space for people on the move over the past 10 years. Your support—in any form—makes this possible. We are deeply grateful.

Hopeful news

This year we look back on 10 years of Boat Refugee Foundation. Over the next 10 weeks, we’ll be sharing the history of Boat Refugee Foundation, developments in Europe and Greece around migration, asylum, and refugee aid, as well as memories, photos, and stories on our social media channels.

Without you and all the other volunteers, team members, donors, partners and other supporters from the past 10 years, our story is incomplete. That’s why we’re asking: please share your memories and photos with us, and on your own social media with #10YearsOnTheMove.

You are an unforgettable part of our story. We’re so thankful for your dedication and involvement. You’ll be hearing more from us in the coming weeks—and we hope to hear from you too!
